Erica Wheeler is the creator of the Sense of Place and Story Framework. For over 20 years, she's trained staff at more than 45 National Park Service sites nationwide, helping them design engaging visitor experiences. She's keynoted Governor's Conferences on Tourism, delivered a TEDx talk, and published widely in Legacy and Ranger. Before becoming a trainer, she was a touring singer-songwriter featured on NPR's All Things Considered, with music charting on Billboard's Gavin Americana Top Ten. Her work bridges natural history, conservation, the performing arts, and interpretive practice.

Erica Wheeler is the creator of the Sense of Place and Story Framework, which uses a compass model to help people find and share stories that inspire caring and action. For over 20 years, she's trained hundreds of interpreters and educators at more than 45 National Park Service sites—from Yosemite to Independence Hall, Hawaii Volcanoes to the National Mall. She's keynoted multiple Governor's Conferences on Tourism, delivered a TEDx talk, and published widely in Legacy, including "The Interpreter's Technique Compass" (2025), establishing her as a leading voice in place-centered interpretation. Before becoming a trainer, she was an award-winning touring singer-songwriter featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Voice of America. Her album Good Summer Rain, created in partnership with the Trust for Public Land, earned NAI's 2008 Media Award for Best Interpretive Music. She lives in western Massachusetts.
